After our trip to Dubai in March, we were itching to travel again. I was over the moon when moon when Kalyves Beach Resort invited us to stay with them for a week! So I quickly booked our flights to Chania, Crete, and dreamt about being on a beach, by the sea again.
KALYVES BEACH HOTEL
Kalyves Beach Hotel is a 4* hotel located in Chania, next to the river Xydas in Kalyves village. The river runs by the hotel into the sea, making it a very unique sight.
The hotel itself is close to the airport. It takes less than 30 min by car from the airport to the hotel.
The hotel is fantastic for families, as well as romantic getaways. It is smaller than their sister hotel, Kiani Beach Resort, but it’s much calmer and quieter.
They have plenty of children facilities to keep the little one occupied, our kids particularly enjoyed the little playground on the beachfront. It is also fenced off, making it very secure.
At Kalyves Beach, they have 4 pools to suit everyone. There are 2 larger outdoor pools, one smaller indoor pool as well as a dedicated children’s pool.
ALL-INCLUSIVE
Who doesn’t love an all-inclusive right? Now that we have kids, we have come to appreciate it even more!
Kalyves Beach Hotel offers standard all-inclusive packages and a VIP all-inclusive package. We were very lucky enough to get the VIP package included as part of our stay.
They really did make us feel like VIPs! As soon as we stepped into the room, there very treats laid out for the kids and a welcome basket for us!
You also get premium branded spirits with the VIP package as well as various discounts around the resort, free beach towel usage, double speed internet (VERY important for Instagram!!), free room upgrade if available and so much more.
Well worth the upgrade in our opinion as it is only an extra €10 a night compared to standard all-inclusive (pretty much the price of 1 drink in the UK). For more information, click HERE.
THE ROOM
There are several room types at Kalyves Beach Hotel. You have a choice of mountain or sea view and they also have Superior Rooms.
We stay in their Sea View Room for a few nights which fitted all 4 of us comfortably. The room had a nice size bathroom and a large balcony, along with a sofa bed. They provided us with 2 travel cots as well.
We arrived in Chania early hours of the morning (around 2 am) and they kindly provided us some food in the room for us and the children. We appreciated that so much because it meant we didn’t have to go hunting for food in the middle of the night.
ENTERTAINMENTS
We visited early in the season so there wasn’t a lot of in-house entertainments on offer. They did have an amazing violinist playing one night.
To be honest, we didn’t really need much to entertain us because we had the beach, pool and the playgrounds! Our kids spent almost an entire night climbing around the sofas and laughing themselves silly!
They also had the cutest cats roaming around, which the kids loved! We even saw a little kitten around that we named “baby cat”!
KALYVES VILLAGE
You will find shops and beach restaurants around the hotel. We spent some time exploring the local village and discovered some gems! From beautiful alleyways filled with pink flowers, to stunning houses full of character, to local bakeries.
There is also a small harbour at the end of the beach. There is a little church there are it’s the perfect spot to admire the beachfront and to watch people fish!
KIANI BEACH RESORT
We also visited their sister hotel, Kiani Beach Resort, during our time in Chania. It’s only 5 minutes away by car.
Kiani Beach is a much larger resort compared to Kalyves Beach. The resort is split into South and North wings, both with their own pools and restaurants for your meals.
Kiani Beach was a lot busier and full of families with young children. The atmosphere is always buzzing!
Our boys enjoyed their playgrounds and their children splash pool a lot. They also have a beach there by the pool but I would say that the beach at Kalyves Beach Hotel is better for children as it is bigger and the sand is finer.
They also have a kids club at Kiani Beach which offers daily activities. You can leave your children there if they are aged 4 and above. There are also daily out-door programs for adults and children.
There is a kid’s disco on every night at 8:30pm and the boys loved it! Nothing beats a bit of Baby Shark on holiday!
SUMMARY
We cannot thank the staff at SeaCrete Hotels enough! The staff there are so attentive and kind. They put their hearts into what they do and they always make the guests their priority. They were so accommodating and made us feel at ease travelling with young children.
Kalyves Beach Hotel tend to attract a slightly more mature demographic, but I would still recommend it for families with young children. Our boys were like celebrities everywhere they went because all our fellow guests would always stop to tell them how cute they are! It was wonderful to be able to connect with other people when you are abroad.
We preferred the calmer and quieter atmosphere of Kalyves Beach Hotel as we felt more relaxed there. There was less people queuing up for food and drinks in general and our children could roam around more freely.
But both hotels were absolutely fantastic and I would happily bring my family back to either!
