Hotel Lisboa Plaza- A Review

Hotel Lisboa Plaza review

We escaped to Lisbon for a quick city break with the boys in February. We chose to do it during term time for the cheaper flights!

We stayed in a lovely boutique hotel called Hotel Lisboa Plaza, part of Lisbon Heritage Hotels.

HOTEL LISBOA PLAZA

The hotel is situated just behind Avenida Da Liberdade, a boulevard in central Lisbon. It has the advantage of being close to everything you need, yet a shelter away from the busyness.

This hotel has been around since 1954 and it is still being run by the same family today! This charming hotel makes you feel like you have stepped back in time without compromising on facilities and comfort.

HOW TO GET THERE

It was particularly easy to get to from the airport. You can take a direct bus (744) to the hotel or the subway (with 1 line change). Both options take around the same time (30-40 minutes) but we found the bus to be easier as we had a pram and luggage with us.

We got the Lisboa Card which meant that our bus trip was free, which was really handy. It works the same as an Oyster Card in London and you just tap it on the reader as you board the bus.

You can also take a taxi or Uber. We did that on the way back to the airport. It costs around €7 and takes around 25 minutes.

OUR ROOM

We had the Junior Suite during our 3-night stay. The room can be divided by, with a bedroom and living area separated by a set of sliding doors. You also get a complimentary bottle of Porto wine with the room to help you unwind!

The sofa turns into a double bed which the boys shared comfortably.

I really liked the traditional style of the room. The bathroom was particularly luxurious, with marble tiles all around. The hotel was refurbished in 2015 but stayed true to their original style.

The only complaint I have is that they do not replenish amenities like shower gel during your stay. While I love that for the environmental benefits (less waste), we were caught short mid showers as we didn’t realise we had ran out!

BREAKFAST

Does anyone else get really excited for hotel buffet breakfasts? I feel like it is one of the best parts of a hotel experience!

The breakfast at Hotel Lisboa Plaza is excellent! They had a Nespresso machine and so we had great coffee every morning! They had a good selection of cold cuts, cooked food, and yummy pastries. I need to mention that they had mini pastel de natas (Portuguese custard tart) every morning, which made me very happy indeed.

THE REST OF THE HOTEL

Hotel Lisboa Plaza has a few common areas on the ground floor. There is tea/coffee/water available in the lounge area and a big screen TV with comfy sofas. They also have computers with printing facilities.

There is a family room where you can enjoy some snacks and light meals ordered from the bar. It’s really cosy and very well decorated.

There is also a gym and a roof terrace, which has a lovely panoramic view. It was a little bit cold when we went, but I can imagine it being the perfect spot to catch a bit of sun in the summer!

OUR THOUGHTS

  • We loved the location of the hotel and it’s close proximately to central Lisbon and how easy it is to get to and from the airport
  • The staff are very welcoming and are very willing to help (always with a smile too!)
  • I loved that the hotel stayed true to their original style, giving the place so much character
  • The newly refurbished lounge and the free refreshments is such a welcome when you come back to the hotel from a busy day
  • The room was extremely spacious and comfortable
  • The only “negative” is that there are a few steps at the front of the hotel, which meant that we had to lift the pram every time we go in and out. There are lifts inside the hotel, so we had no problem getting around once inside.
