Denmark- Billund 4 Day Itinerary with Kids

Billund had been on my list for a very long time and now that they kids are a little older, it was the perfect time to go.

Flights from Stansted airport are relatively cheap and only 1.5 hour long. We went during Easter Bank Holiday, so we paid a lot more for our flights (around £100 pp, when they are usually as low as £70pp return). We opted to go without check bags to keep cost down.

BILLUND

Like me, you might have seen and heard of Billund from Instagram or TikTok. Billund is a town in Denmark where LEGO brick was invented and home of the LEGO HQ! It is the prefect place to take your family and it wouldn’t be hard to convince you.

We spent 5 days and 4 nights there and here is a summary of our itinerary.

Day 1: Aquadome + explore Lalandia

Day 2: Lalandia + dinner at Mini Chef + LEGO Castle Hotel

Day 3: LEGOLAND

Day 4: LEGO House + home

DAY 0 (this doesn’t count as a day as we arrived late at night)

We flew out on Easter Friday but we got the later flight and didn’t arrive until very late at night. The earlier flights would have set us back another £200 and wouldn’t even get us half a day more…

We took a short taxi ride from the airport because the buses were not running at that time. There are taxis readily available right outside the exit of the airport. It cost around £20 for a 5-minute journey. You can actually give your lodge number to the driver and they can take it right to the door.

If you plan to arrive during the day, you can take the 43 bus directly from the airport to Lalandia/ Legoland. You can purchase your bus ticket at the machine by the exit or pay cash on the bus and the journey time is around 27 minutes.

If you haven’t heard of Lalandia, it is basically a holiday paradise for families. It is like Centre Parcs without the hefty price tag!

We arrived at our lodge around 11pm. I was sent the lodge number and access code days before our arrival and the check in process was as simple as typing in the code at the door!

Lalandia boasts a range of holiday homes ranging in size and furnishings. We stayed in a Classic Plus 6 home which can accommodate up to 6 people + 1 child (aged 0-2). We chose the 3 bedroom lodge mainly because it has a themed bedroom with a bunk bed inside. This made our stay even more fun for the boys.

One of the most amazing things which you don’t usually get with UK holiday parks is a washing machine and tumble dryer! It’s a godsend when you don’t want to pay extra for check bags.

If you stay at Lalandia, I highly recommend purchasing a Gold Wristband. They are 199 DKK (£22) each (if purchased before arrival) and the wristbands allow access to most of the activities for free. This is a bargain considering just bowling itself in the UK can cost you a small fortune! Our wristbands were already in the lodge, ready for us to use the next day.

DAY 1 (our official first full day)

You can not come to Billund and not visit Lalandia Aquadome– the largest Scandinavian waterpark! This is a world-class tropical waterpark jam packed with water slides, rides, wave pool and Jacuzzis! You can honestly spend hours and hours here. Aquadome is free for Lalandia residential guests, but you can also get a day pass for around 339 DKK (£38).

Our boys were too little for most of the big water slides, but it did not take away any of the fun! There is a dedicated baby and toddler area for 5 and under and a junior pool with slides. I personally really enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi and the saunas!

In the evening, we opted for the all-you-can-eat at Bambino (Italian restaurant). You also have access to the Mexican buffet (and vice versa). To give you a rough idea, it cost around £90 for 2 adults and 2 kids- not the cheapest but we really enjoyed the food and had a great time stuffing our faces!!

After dinner, we visited the Winter World and tried out the indoor toboggan and ice-skating. I highly recommend going in the evening because it was very quiet and we almost had the whole place to ourselves!

We finished off the day with soft-play at Monky Tonky Land before enjoying a fantastic night sleep at the lodge.

DAY 2

After some breakfast, we started off the day with some bowling (make sure you book in advance at the desk behind the bowling alley). It was our last day at Lalandia and we made sure we tried out as many activities as possible.

We did some trampolining, rock climbing and the Sky Rider. I was so proud of myself for doing the Sky Rider! I am not even a fan of height!

After leaving Lalandia, we headed to our next accommodation across the road! We were all very excited to be staying at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel and the whole experience did not disappoint.

We stayed at the Dragon’s Knight room and the room has a separate area for the kids’ bunk bed. It’s always exciting to stay in a themed room but this exceeded all our expectations. There was a box of LEGO in the room as well as a treasure hunt around the hotel. You must crack the code to the secret safe to collect your prize!

After checking into LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, we headed off to Mini Chef at LEGO House for dinner. Mini Chef makes eating incredibly fun.  You select your meal using LEGO bricks and you scan your order at your table. A short animation pops up to show your meal being prepared.

You then pick up your food from actual robots! I was not expecting much when it came to the food but the food was amazing! Best thing was they give you unlimited refill of the non-protein element of the meal.

Make sure you reserve a tablet before you go. Adult meals are 219 DKK (£25) and kid’s meals are 130 DKK (£15). I thought the price is very fair considering the whole experience and the food you get.

DAY 3

We woke up nice and early to enjoy the complementary breakfast that is included in every stay at the LEGO Castle Hotel. We ate till our belly was full and we were ready for our LEGOLAND day!

Although it did rain intermittently, it did not spoil our fun one bit. The boys are both just over 100cm so our experience of the park might be different to people with older children.

We have been to LEGOLAND Windsor several times and I was surprised that LEGOLAND Billund had so many different rides. We didn’t go on any of the big rides, but the kids enjoyed the variety of things on offer for them.

One of the best things about LEGOLAND Billund is the short queue times!! We went of a Bank Holiday weekend, so I was prepared to queue for hours. The longest we had to queue was 10 mins! This meant that we were able to do a lot of with our day instead of wasting time queuing.

There are also a lot of interactive non-ride related stations, great for when the rain gets heavy, or the little ones get tired. All in all, a wonderful experience and I would not hesitate to return.

DAY 4

For our final day, the heavens opened but lucky for us, we planned to visit the LEGO House and spend the day inside. The LEGO House hosts 25 million LEGO bricks to give LEGO fans the ultimate LEGO experience.

The LEGO House is divided into different Experience Zones colours and each one symbolises an aspect of learning and playing. You can interact with almost everything, both physically and digitally. I was most impressed by the LEGO and DUPLO waterfalls! My kids did not hesitate to jump into the pool of DUPLO!

The LEGO House has a unique architecture constructed from 21 staggered blocks. There are roof terraces for guest to enjoy, each with a different children’s play area. It was a shame that we couldn’t check these out due to the weather.

We had a very wholesome day, and I will always treasure these memories of us sitting and building LEGOs together as a family! We even got to find out many interesting facts about the history of LEGOs!

After that, it was time to say goodbye…. We headed back to the LEGO Castle Hotel and they booked us a taxi to the airport. We didn’t feel like waiting for the bus in the rain with all our luggage.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This has been a very long blog but there is so much to do and say about Billund. This is really the perfect destination for families. I wished we had longer to explore other parts of Billund but I hope our itinerary is helpful for those looking to visit over a long weekend.

We had an incredibly busy few days but it was the most fun we have had on holiday. There was never a dull moment!

** We were kindly hosted by Lalandia and LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. Our entries to LEGOLAND and LEGO House were also complementary. However, all opinions and photos are our own and we always try to share our honest reviews **
