Japanese Hair Salon Review- Hiro Miyoshi Hair & Beauty

It has been 18 months since I last went to the hairdressers. Some people are afraid to go to the dentist, I on the other hand, am afraid of the hairdressers!

I’ve had some pretty terrible experiences with hairdressers before and as a result, I often cut my own hair. I have been told before that my hair is difficult to cut because it is too ‘silky’. The first time I went really short, I ended up with a weird looking bob…

I got to a stage where I became bored of my own hair. Due to the lack of time in the mornings, I always wear my hair the same way. I wanted a change but I knew it wasn’t something I could or should do myself.

I was invited to a Japanese salon in Mayfair called Hiro Miyoshi Hair & Beauty for a new hair transformation. I was delighted because I had been told that Asian hair type is quite different to other type of hair. If anyone was to know how to deal with my ‘too silky’ hair, it would be a Japanese salon!

HIRO MIYOSHI HAIR & BEAUTY

The salon is located in a quiet little street in Mayfair, right in the heart of London. Their mission is to provide high standard customer service and the best quality of hairdressing. The salon owner, Hiro Miyoshi, is an experience hairdresser from Japan. He is very well known for this incredible work and his emphasis on using the finest Japanese tools for his work.

Most salons I have been too are busy, hectic and crowded. Salons are not normally a favorable environment for people who are fearful of the hairdressers.  At Hiro Miyoshi Hair & Beauty, you feel calm as soon as you arrive at the door. The minimalist interior design really sets the tone of the ambiance. The salon can get busy but it never feels rushed.

MY EXPERIENCE

Despite my apprehension about hairdressers, I was very excited to visit this hair salon. I had read amazing reviews for this place and I couldn’t wait to get my new look. I met my stylist, Lis, and I immediately felt at ease.

Lis wears a big warm smile on her face, the kind that makes you instantly trust someone. She made sure I was comfortable and we discussed what I wanted.

I showed Lis some photos I found of ash blonde balayage before we began. If you didn’t know, balayage is a French hair colouring technique that creates a sun-kissed look.

My hair before

Lis started by mixing some bleach and painting it on to teased section of my hair and wrapping it in foil. The developing process took around and hour and a half. The bleach was then washed off and toned with purple shampoo and a toner.

Balayage looks best with curled hair as it creates a lot of movement and volume. The whole process took around 3 hours to complete and I am so happy with the results.

THE RESULT

I love my new colour. I have never gone blonde before as I have only ever used box dye.

I originally wanted very light blonde tips but because I have naturally dark hair, this wasn’t realistic with one visit.

My hair was trimmed and I said good bye to my split ends. There are many different shades of blonde in my hair now and I love the way it looks when it catches the sunlight.

MY THOUGHTS

The most appealing thing about Hiro Miyoshi Hair & Beauty is the customer service. The staff clearly love working there and I adore their energy. I was lucky enough to meet Hiro himself and he was very welcoming and I can see that he cares about his customers a lot. For the few hours I was there, I saw every customer leave the salon with a smile on their faces.

My experience with Lis felt more like a catch up with a friend. I felt at ease with her and it was great getting to know more about her life and how she came to work at the salon. Lis really took the time to listen to what I wanted and respected my choices, but at the same time, able to curve my expectations in a professional manner.

Lis also spent a lot of time educating me on how to care for my new hair and giving me lots of tips as well as product recommendations. She also taught me basic techniques on how to curl and style my new hair.

Me with the brilliant Lis!

I feel like I have finally found a salon that I can trust. I have a feeling I am going to start enjoying my visit to the hairdressers from now on and maybe I won’t have to live with those DIY fringes anymore!

The curls relaxed after a few hours
