Hotel Saint Louis Marseille Review

If you have been following our Instagram and Instagram stories, you would know that we recently took a family trip to Marseille.

We were invited to stay at Hotel Saint Louis, once known as The Grand Hotel Saint Louis! Hotel Saint-Louis managed to preserve its historical charm, with iron balconies being an integral part of the building’s façade.

Location

Hotel Saint Louis is located in the heart of Marseille, on a semi-pedestrian street in the district of Noailles. As you step out of the hotel door, you have a shopping high street on your right and Marseille port 3 minutes away.

The Room

We stayed in one of their double comfort room on the 2nd floor. The room was spacious and had 2 small balconies overlooking Saint Louis court yard. The bed was super comfortable! After travelling and sightseeing, that bed was like our sanctuary.

Each room in this hotel is equipped with a private bathroom, hairdryer, towels, shampoo, shower gel, Wifi access and air conditioning.

What we loved

The location was unbeatable! Less than 20 minute walk from Saint Charles Station and few minute walk from Vieux Port, we couldn’t have picked a more convenient location!

The staffs were very attentive and kind. They even gave us space to get changed when we arrived early and our room wasn’t ready.

We also love how they were integrate to the original design of the place and created a cosy space that made you really feel like you are in France!

The décor in the bathroom was amazing. We especially loved the patterned tiling on the floor that complemented the rest of the contemporary design very well.

We also had breakfast at their restaurant (Le Petit Saint Louis) every morning that helped fuel our adventure-filled trip. The restaurant has a lovely outdoor seating area in the courtyard which would be perfect for summer and a modern bar.

The balconies were gorgeous! We loved the French windows and the amount of light they let in.

What could be done better?

There were a few things that we noticed once we settled into the room. Some of the furniture in the room was broken. They were nothing that major, such as the handle of the chest of drawers and the legs of the bedside table, but had they been fixed up, it would have made it a nicer experience for us.

We also had trouble with the towel rack that kept falling down and a shower head holder that was broken. Had we noticed those things when we first saw the room, we might have asked for a room change.

Their wifi might not be the fastest but with such a beautiful city to explore, you are hardly going to be spending much time in the hotel room serving the net!

Overall

We were very captivated by the charm of this hotel and it certainly has its own character. The location was perfect for us and made out trip a lot easier. If they paid more attention to the finer details and made the necessary repairs, this could be a great place to stay!
