5 Ways To Beat Christmas Stress

Christmas is right around the corner, and although it is truly a wonderful time of year, we all know that it does not come without stress.

Where are you spending Christmas this year?

What presents are you buying for everyone? Do you even have enough money…?

Who is doing all the cooking? Should we buy a turkey? Uncle Bill just became a vegetarian so he can’t have turkey…!

Where on earth am I going to find space for my oversized Christmas tree? Why do all my Christmas decorations falling apart?

Don’t even get me started on New Year’s Eve…..

Like us, there are probably a million Christmas-related things on your mind right now and I may have just added more to that list. But let us put that all aside and look at ways of tackling the stress related to the holidays.

1)     Remember what it is all about

I don’t know what Christmas means to you but for us, as Christians, Christmas is a celebration and a reminder of God’s ultimate gift to mankind. We believe that Jesus came to earth as fully God and fully human to live among mankind and to offer us salvation. Jesus came so that as sinners, we have a chance to be redeemed and we can have a relationship with God on earth and throughout eternity.

With all the hustle and bustle of the festive season, it’s easy for us to lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas and focus on logistic and material things. Whatever Christmas means to you, take some time to focus on it, really try hard to remember it as you prepare for Christmas!

2)     Write a list

I love lists. To-do lists, shopping lists, wish lists…

If you are not a list person, Christmas is a good time to start practicing. Write down all the things you need to do on a list and tick them off as you go along. Divide your list into 3 categories:

–       To do today

–       To do this week

–       To do later

Dividing your list will help you priorities and see what requires your attention immediately and what can wait.

3)     Start early

Depending when you are reading this…. you can start your planning early this year (or next year!) Pay attention to family members and friends to come up with the perfect gift for them. Plan and buy food for Christmas early to avoid disappointments and having to fight with others for the last turkey!

Having family over? Plan well in advance where everyone is staying and what you need them to bring. Do you need sleeping bags, duvets or pillows in order to host an extra 10 people in the house?

Starting early will always help you reduce stress during the holidays and it will give you time to actually get excited about it.

4)     Think before making commitments

Remember, you can only be in one place at a time! Don’t be afraid to say no to invitations. Do not over-commit yourself to engagements to the point where you are burnt out. There are 364 other days you can spend with people in the year!

5)     Take time to actually relax and celebrate

We took this last step very seriously. We were invited by Spa Seekers for a pre-Christmas spa weekend and it was an offer we couldn’t refuse! Our calendar for December was already full the time we got to September and the prospect of Christmas coming up was honestly a little stressful for us.

We wanted to have a mini getaway but not actually go abroad. Have a look at the last time we took a staycation in the Lake District HERE.

We spent 2 days and 1 night at Best Western Kenwick Park Hotel and we had the most incredible time! Best Western Kenwick Park Hotel is a country house hotel located in in Lincolnshire.

Our staycation started with an afternoon tea at the EverGreen Spa. We enjoyed every bit of that afternoon tea! EverGreen Spa is equipped with a 20 metre indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, outdoor hydrotheraphy pool and a range of poolside thermal spa suite.

After relaxing in the outdoor pool, we went for a 55 minute long back massage and mini facial. We were very impressed with the massage and they were so tentative. They left no knots untouched!

We continued to relax some more in the pool area and made use of the poolside thermal spas.

This is by far one of the best spa we have been to. Spa facilities are very rarely this large and well equipped. On top of that, the staffs are so friendly and very accommodating!

We ended our day with a roast dinner and then we retreated to our 4 bedroom lodge! This lodge is made to impressed! We had 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms between the 2 of us. The living area is so spacious. This would be the perfect place for a family to stay in. It is beautifully decorated and adequately heated (just what you need for a cold winter/ snowy day!)

If you would like a spa weekend to take the edge off all the Christmas stress, consider Kenwick Park Hotel! You can book through Spa Seekers HERE.

We feel so refreshed and ready for the holidays now!
